Oops I did it again
On September 7 at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall, Spears gave a memorable live performance.[24] Which included a remake of The Rolling Stones’s 1965 hit single “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and her own hit “Oops!… I Did It Again”, released earlier that year. While she began her segment in a black suit, she shocked the audience and the media while, at only the age of eighteen, ripped it off to display a revealing, flesh-colored stage outfit with hundreds of strategically-placed Swarovski crystals.[25] Entertainment Weekly put it on its end-of-the-decade, “best-of” list, saying, “This is the Britney Spears we choose to remember–the pre-breakdown pop tart, then just 19 years old, writhing and shaking her moneymaker in nude-colored rhinestone spandex to a mash-up of “Satisfaction” and “Oops!… I Did It Again.” Pure kitsch bliss.”[26]
Other performances of the song include several television appearances. Spears performed on The Rosie O’Donnell Show on May 12,[27] NBC’s Saturday Night Live on May 13,[27] MTV’s Times Square Studios for a two-hour concert called “Britney Live” on May 14,[28] “Total Request Live” on May 16,[27] Nickelodeon’s variety show All That on May 20[27] and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on May 23.[27] A Fox television special titled “Britney In Hawaii” aired on June 8.[29] Spears performed the track on three world tours, the Oops!… I Did It Again World Tour (2000), the Dream Within a Dream Tour (2001) and the Onyx Hotel Tour (2004).
The single was released to radio stations in the US on March 27, 2000.[30] The track was commercially available in several formats including the traditional CD single and maxi single. The former was released in the United Kingdom on May 2 along with a Cassette single,[19] the latter hit the European music stores eight days earlier.[14] In both formats a B-side called “Deep In My Heart” was available, which had previously appeared on selected versions of her 1999 debut album “…Baby One More Time” as a bonus track.[3] Also, the main and instrumental version of the song were accompanied by a remix of “From the Bottom of My Broken Heart” made by Davidson Ospina.[14] In addition, another maxi single was released in Europe, where only a restricted number of copies were produced. It included remixes by Riprock ‘N’ Alex G., Davidson Ospina and Rodney Jerkins.[14] The song was featured in an episode of The Sopranos titled “Employee of the Month”.
